The first wooden headboard that I built was for our family. We were living in a townhouse and felt we wanted something a little less bulky than a bed frame so we decided on just a headboard. I liked the idea of the slat-style since it would allow me to use some of my favorite woods in a unique way. Luckily, I was smart enough to build it into 2 pieces so when we recently moved, it wasn’t too much of a bear to move and didn’t get damaged. I even threw in a couple pictures of the weird way I had to glue the pieces to the base- using heavy items from around out house to apply pressure!
I was more than thrilled when I got a request to build a similar headboard again from my brother. I like being able to make tweaks to my original design to make it even better. It was neat getting to send pictures of the the dry fit with all the slats laid out so the couple give requests for more of a certain wood or to move pieces around to their liking. With the second headboard, I also paid a lot more attention to the lines where boards ended so it looked more natural.
The headboards are mounted to the wall using a french cleat- similar to how you might hang a heavy photo or piece of art. The headboard is made so that it can disassemble into 2 pieces. Here are a few photos of how the headboard is assembled and mount to the wall.
Great Job 👏
