This table would not exist without the persistence of my husband. I sat on the idea of make a dining table for us for months! I’m not fully sure why but I believe it had something to do with the size of the project. Up until this point, I had only made end tables and other smaller pieces of furniture and definitely not something that would be looked at so much as a focal piece. After Juan threatened to buy a table from a store, I sat down and made a sketch to start building. Similar to the headboard I built, when it came time to design it, I knew that I wanted all of my favorite woods to be included.
This dining table is ~72″ long, 33″ wide and 30.5″ tall. The base is made from walnut and the top has a combination of Sapele, Walnut, Padauk and Purpleheart woods. The entire table was sealed with 4-5 coats of a General Finishes Arm R Seal Satin. The top is chamfered on both the top and bottom edges and all of the legs are tapered to give them a slender look. I later built a walnut bunch to go on one side of this table for the kids.
