I learned how to build an end table in my second woodworking class that I took at the Woodworkers’ Club in Rockville, MD. I paid the extra fee to make my table out of walnut instead of oak and I’m sure glad that I did because this end table is used still today in our home. This is the end table that you see in the first photo.
The second photo shows one in a set walnut end tables that I built about a year later. I wanted to build the end table again to make sure I still could! With this set, I decided to do a slightly different style top by adding a chamfer to the top as well as the bottom edge. This set of end tables are now in the home of a wonderful woman I met in Williamsburg at an event whose father had also been a woodworker- like I said, you meet the most amazing people at maker events.
The third photo shows a Sapele version of the table I did just this past winter. Sapele continues to be one of my favorite woods to work with because of its unique wood grains and color but also, until recently, it relatively inexpensiveness. When I did this table, I decided to also slightly chamfer each edge of the legs. While it is hard to see from the photos, I think this little addition really brought the whole table together.
