When my grandmother passed, my mom asked me if I would be interested in refinishing her old singer sewing table. I hadn’t really refinished anything before so I jumped at the opportunity to try something new. The top wooden compartment appeared to be in rough shape with some of the veneer popping up and screws no longer holding it together. I decided instead to remove the top frame and make something simple to go on top.
Here I’ve done a flat top made of walnut, padauk and maple. I rounded the edges and finished with General Finishes Arm R Seal Satin. I sealed the metal frame with a black Rustoleum mate finish. We use this piece in our guest bedroom as a luggage rest. Now if only I could get my son to stop playing with the pedal and wheel!
